Gaming Gift Idea’s For Kids – Christmas Special Part 1

Jingle bells Jingle bells

Spread The Love!

Are you on Santa’s nice list or find yourself struggling to think of gift ideas to purchase for your kids? We’ve got you covered…

I have compiled a list of games, consoles and accessories which are sure to be on every kid’s mind going into the Christmas holidays.

So sit back, stay at home and wine down (glasses out) because it’s distress man to the rescue… (begin cringe)

Board And Video Games

I actually affiliate with Santa Clause (uh hmm.. Amazon), and he tells me that lots of boys and girls have wished for some very amazing board games this Christmas… so let’s pull the first item out of the North Poleon bag and get straight into it:

Board Games

  1. Jenga Hasbro Game – If you haven’t heard of Jenga, then you must’ve not lived for a half a century because this game is great for kids, families and friends. It promotes a kind of anticipation and adrenaline without the need to jump out of a plane or drink red bull in order to get wings…
  • The rules are simple too, with 54 blocks stacked up correctly using instructions and a frame. Each person takes a turn carefully taking out a Jenga piece and placing it on top of the tower, if it falls then that person is eliminated or out of the game. You can also play in teams (very frustrating if your friend has never played Lego or built a card castle).
  • Price: Jenga is $8.77 for the classic version (shipping depending on location) or you have the $14.76 version, which provides an easy to pack away cylinder box. Both come with all the same features and include the 54 Jenga blocks and building frame. 5,130 more results here.
  • Rating: 4.7/5 Stars on Amazon
  • Age: For Everyone.

2. Cards Against Humanity – I wouldn’t recommend this game for younger children as it does have explicit jokes and phrases which aren’t exactly politically correct or appropriate, providing a predominantly dark sense of humor.

I added this because it can be an outrageously hilarious game for teenagers and adults alike.

  • Up to 4-6 players (recommended) receive a set of cards from the moderator (a player who reads out a sentence card). Once a sentence has been read out, players then choose a funny phrase to fill in the blanks of that sentence. The players cards are shuffled, and the moderator then reads the sentence with each of the players chosen phrase. The player deemed to have chosen the funniest phrase (chosen by the moderator), then receives a point. (moderator then changes player every couple/each round/s)
  • Price: $25.00 + Free Shipping and features 500 white cards (Phrases) and 100 black cards (Sentences). 6 official DLC expansion packs are also available from $8.00 to $20.00. 8,556 more results here.

3. Pokemon Shining Legends Elite Trainer Box Collectible Cards – If you or your kid are into Pokemon trading cards, then this next item should be a Christmas blessing. Super fast shipping, affordability, and tons of value, it’s no wonder Eric said that this was the “Best elite trainer box I’ve ever purchased”.

Features include:

  • 10 Pokemon TCG: Shining Legends Booster packs.
  • Never before seen foil promo card featuring Shiny Ho-Oh.
  • 65 card sleeves featuring Ho-Oh
  • 45 Pokémon TCG Energy cards
  • A player’s guide to the ‘Shining Legends’ expansion
  • 6 damage-counter dice
  • 1 competition-legal coin-flip die
  • 2 acrylic condition markers and 1 acrylic GX marker
  • A collector’s box to hold everything, with 4 dividers to keep it organized
  • A code card for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online.
  • Price: $35.36 + Shipping (Depending on location), there is also a complete collection which costs a lot more $169.99. I will place both below so you can check them out.
  • Rating: 4/5 Stars on Amazon.
  • Age: For Everyone.

4. Disney Family Edition Codenames Card Game – Do you have a detective or secret agent in your family?

  • Codenames is a signaling game which puts two teams against each other to see which team can contact all their agents first. Spymasters give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the board. Their teammates try to guess words of the right color while avoiding those that belong to the opposing team. You may also want to avoid the assassin…
  • Price: The newest Disney Family Editions costs $24.83 + shipping (depending on location). There is also cheaper versions here.
  • Rating: 5/5 Stars on Amazon.
  • Age: For Everyone.

Video Games

Gaming is a multi-billion dollar industry, with millions of gaming videos, games and players being associated with this hobby/job. The biggest Youtuber is a gamer known as ‘Pewdiepie’ and he earns a full time living playing video games.

Therefore, this next list might be a game which your kid has seen youtubers like Pewdiepie play, and is begging for you to get for him/her.

1. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (Xbox One, PC) – is a battle royale game which pits 100 players onto an island to scavenge and survive. You pick up weapons, Armour, bags, cosmetics and have to kill other players in order to be the last person/ team standing.

It’s a very adrenaline fueled game which requires plenty of hiding, planning and team/solo coordination in order to win. If you love the Hunger Games then you are in for a treat…

  • Price: $29.99 for the Xbox One version (releases December 12, 2017), PC is also $29.99 and can be found on steam.
  • Rating: Mixed on Steam (PC).
  • Age: Teenager +
  • Buy It Now:

2. Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon (3DS) – I bought a Nintendo 3DS when this game first released because it was that good! now there is an expanded version which just released and offers a ton of value for players. Including more story, 100 new Pokemon, areas and moves to unlock.

If your kid hasn’t played Pokemon yet and they own a 3DS then they are in for a life-changing adventure. Pokemon is one of the best franchises ever created in my opinion, and I highly recommend for you go check out my review on the game.

  • Price: $38.88
  • Rating: 4.6/5 Stars on Amazon.
  • Age: For Everyone.

3. Minecraft (Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, PS3, WII U) – Every kid loves building and creating incredible soaring sculptures…

That’s why Minecraft is a number one seller and has been for the past couple of years. Build massive structures, survive in the wilderness with friends either split-screen or online, fight off monsters in caves and craft diamond strength gear. There is so much to do in Minecraft that the freedom and fun given to players is endless.

  • Price: Range around $20-$25 for all consoles, with digital download codes being cheaper @ $19.99.
  • Rating: 4.7/5 Stars on Amazon.
  • Age: For Everyone.
  • Buy It Now:

4. Gift Cards – Still can’t decide? I always resort to purchasing gift cards as my last resort. Family members like my brothers for example, then have that choice if they want to purchase a game at a later date online. Instead of using your credit cards and maxing them out… (ah the memories).

I will place a range for different consoles and popular services so you have a large variety at your disposal:

Part 2 Coming Soon…

  4. Oooo happy to see the recommendations for some of my favorite board games. Jenga is fun in ANY group and cards against humanity is a perfect way to get to know friends and relatives, especially at holiday parties. Great gift ideas!

  5. Great list of games Jeremy! We love to play games at our house. We have Jenga, and it is a wonderfully fun game! I am liking Cards Against Humanity. This sounds like a great game 🙂 I am going to have to take a look at the link for this one.

    1. Thanks Leah, its a very fun game and can be made even more hilarious due to the things said during games… I highly recommend if you have friends or family willing to play!

  6. I love this selection Jeremy. People think that shopping for kids is easy because you can just pick out anything but I find it hard to be honest. Kids are somewhat more picky now lol. But this selection you can’t go wrong with. Personally I like anything Disney and haven’t heard of that one before on your list, so I think that will be a great pick!

    1. Thanks for the comment Rob, well being someone who has recently graduated from being a kid:) I know that it can be kind of hard finding things to buy them, especially when there is so many kid focused products out there.
I tried simplifying it with this list.
      Take care mate!

  7. My little cousin loves Pokemon and Shining Legends Elite looks just really awesome. I also like playing with Trading cards and it can be a nice way to spend time with my cousin. I will definitely check it out.
